It is always heartening to see new communities move forward. As we enter the fall, our latest student residence opened, a mixed-use development in San Francisco is ready to rise, and a senior apartment building is breaking ground in Oakland.

UC Merced Hall Opens To Students

The Summits, the newest student residence at UC Merced welcomed 385 first-year students into double, triple, and quad rooms. The two residence halls frame a complex of outdoor community spaces and include conference rooms, study lounges, a dance room, and a cafe space with pavilion seating. In keeping with UC Merced’s commitment to sustainability, The Summits will be certified LEED Gold.

Ocean Avenue Moving Ahead

Along Ocean Avenue, in San Francisco, Avalon Bay Communities is preparing to break ground on a mixed-use development that will include 173 units, street front retail, a public terrace and be anchored by a full-service supermarket. Designed with extensive community input, the Ocean Avenue project will integrate into the fabric of an established San Francisco neighborhood.

Harrison Street Senior Housing Breaking Ground

This fall Christian Church Homes and the Oakland Housing Authority will break ground on a 72-unit senior housing development designed by Pyatok Architects. Located in downtown Oakland, the building will serve as a high-quality senior residence and a neighborhood beacon with its rooftop ‘lighthouse’ and recreation room. Harrison Street Housing is designed to earn a 145-point GreenPoint rating.
