Kai brings his knowledge of the craft that goes into architecture from his early training at a design/build company in Portland, OR. He relocated to the Bay Area to pursue his passion for working within a larger urban context and to gain exposure to projects that have a greater impact on neighborhoods and communities.
In his capacity as an Associate at PYATOK, Kai has provided management, coordination and detail support for both built and designed projects in the office. He earned his technical background from his first major project working as the point-person on the UC Santa Cruz Infill Apartments Repair project, a highly specialized renovation requiring a high level of technical scrutiny. He has also served in various roles for projects from early concept design with community workshops and entitlement design phases working with Design Review Boards, to detailed construction documents and bidding review.
Kai holds a B.Arch from the University of Oregon in Eugene, where he first found his passion for both housing and how buildings are constructed. He first became interested in working at PYATOK when he and his team won an award for the Portland Courtyard Housing Competition (2007), in which Mike Pyatok, FAIA was a jury member.
