Kathy Kurtak, AIA
Associate (510) 465-7010 x132

Kathy has over 10 years of experience in a range of project types, scales, phases and roles. Most recently she has been doing construction administration for Alta Waverly after developing the project from entitlements through construction documents. Alta Waverly is a 196 unit, mixed-use development in downtown Oakland. Her other work at Pyatok has included affordable housing rehabilitation and new construction, community master plans and student housing. As a licensed architect, Kathy’s goal on any project is to work within the parameters of user and client needs, community priorities, regulations, and budgets to create well-designed environments that optimize the potential of available resources. She balances effective client communication and big picture thinking, with an ability to focus on and unpack complex issues and details. As an associate she has been instrumental in implementing new office initiatives and supporting staff morale.

Kathy cares deeply about the complex and varied ways the built environment can better the human experience. Her training in both architecture and urban design continue to inform her work at all scales.  Prior to Pyatok she worked for the Millennium Cities Initiative (MCI) at the Earth Institute to assess slum conditions and propose improvement solutions in Accra, Ghana. Before that, she worked as a designer on education projects in suburban and urban Pennsylvania.
