Jefferson Area NeighborhoodMaster Planning |

The Jefferson Area is a ½ mile square, ethnically diverse, neighborhood adjacent to Downtown Fresno. The area is hemmed in by intersecting freeways, a north south rail line, and a regional medical center that is planning a major expansion, resulting in the loss of significant portions of the existing housing stock. In the face of these eroding forces Pyatok Architects worked with a local CDC to develop a Master Plan that would re-assert community control. The resulting Master Plan has been adopted by the City Council a regulatory document for the area, and hailed as a model for community planning in other downtown neighborhoods. • Four community work shops, including simultaneous translations in Spanish and Moung • Narrowing of North Fresno Street from four to two lanes to slow traffic and restore neighborhood connections. • Mixed use re-development on Commercial Corridors • New Elementary School and open space designed to reinforce community fabric • New Infill Housing for downtown workers and existing area residents • Recommended guidelines for neighborhood edge of Medical Center Expansion |
