Pyatok Architects designed renovations for this dilapidated, 198-unit apartment complex for occupancy by tenants whose incomes range from 30% to 60% of the area median. The two buildings were enhanced with simple details such as alternating colors, brackets, and window planters, in order to break up the monolithic, box-like feel of the old exterior. Multiple smaller parking lots were created with curbside planters and pedestrian-friendly walkways to minimize the expansive appearance of the parking lot. A swimming pool building was converted into a community center and a miniature golf course was transformed into a system of paths, creating an accessible route of travel through the site while providing a recreational area for children.
