As part of a larger team preparing a plan for the integration of light rail transit into downtown Tacoma, Pyatok Architects was retained to develop high-density housing prototypes appropriate to the particular circumstances in the downtown, and to recommend strategies to encourage development of new housing in existing residential neighborhoods as well as in areas which are now largely vacant. The prototypes focused on the unique and relatively consistent topographic conditions prevailing in the downtown, as well as on neighborhood planning and the development of a healthy pedestrian environment conducive to transit-oriented development.
