These homes are designed for large, very low income families. Each family has a townhome with its own front and rear patios. Large and informal eat-in kitchens face the rear patio while the formal livingroom faces the front street. Parking is in the rear, so a family returns home directly into its kitchen ‘hangout’. Guests park on the front street, so they enter through the front door into the livingroom. Three units are clustered together to appear as if they are one large house. This strategy, along with an interpretation of details typical of the region’s craftsman-style, help the homes fit into the neighborhood. Pyatok Associates designed, built and donated the decorative birdhouses. |
