May is Affordable Housing Month in the Bay Area, a time to “think big and imagine a bold future where everyone in our region has a safe place to call home.” Organized by housing advocacy groups like NPH and EBHO, AHM is packed with tours, talks, and celebrations for the ongoing work of building enough homes - and designing thriving new communities - for our homeless and at-risk neighbors. This year’s is particularly momentous for PYATOK as we’re celebrating the grand openings of three projects delivering a combined 208 homes for low-income East Bay residents:
Crescent Grove (Ruby St)
Crescent Grove, developed by Eden Housing and serving 20-60% Area Median Income (AMI) residents, introduces 72 much-needed affordable apartments while preserving a riparian corridor along San Lorenzo Creek, creating a public creekside trail, and utilizing area motives, materials, and scale to ease the project into a low-density residential neighborhood.
- Crescent Grove’s Ribbon Cutting will be Friday, May 9th, 12-2pm, 22447 Ruby St, Castro Valley.
Ancora Place
This 5-story, 77-apartment project in Oakland’s San Antonio neighborhood, co-designed with Phillips Win Architecture and developed by SAHA for 15-70% AMI residents, contributes to the International Boulevard Bus Rapid Transit corridor and includes a verdant, 13,000-square-foot courtyard for active and passive recreating and special events.
- Ancora Place’s Grand Opening will be Tuesday, May 13th, 1-2pm at 2255 International Blvd, Oakland.
Ms. Margaret Gordon’s West Port (West Grand & Brush)
Newly named after West Oakland community leader Margaret Gordon and developed by EBALDC, West Port adds 59 apartments and amenities for residents earning 15-70% AMI, including a generous podium courtyard and a small nonprofit storefront, along the West Grand entrance to Uptown.
- The West Port Grand Opening details are TBD.
