Tien began her architectural studies at Chabot College earning an Associate of Arts degree with a major in Architecture and then continued studying at UC Berkeley earning a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture. Witnessing the Bay Area’s developing housing crisis, Tien was inspired to focus her studies on the design of multifamily housing not only as a possible solution, but also as an opportunity to create a sustainable city that maintains the essence of its own culture.

After graduation, Tien moved to Vietnam to work with an architectural firm specializing in the use of natural and local materials to introduce greenery within the common spaces of their residential and commercial projects.  Tien also drew inspiration from the firm’s process:  the careful study of a site’s environs and its urban context to create a deep understanding of the culture and locale which would be carefully incorporated into the final design of their buildings.

Upon her return, Tien joined PYATOK as a designer. In PYATOK she has found a similar passion for cultural sensitivity and sustainability.  Tien is excited to be creating more resilient, sustainable, diverse communities with people who are equally committed to housing individuals and families at all income levels.

Tien likes to spend time with friends, discover places to dine, and explore new neighborhoods while documenting her adventures with an old school 35 mm film camera.
