Under construction in downtown Santa Rosa, the 2.3-acre Caritas Village will be a transformative campus of services and housing solutions for currently and formerly homeless residents. The Catholic Charities Homeless Services Center and Family Support Centers, occupying 100-year-old structures, will be replaced and expanded with Caritas Center, while Caritas Homes will provide permanent supportive housing units for very- and extremely-low-income households.
Following completion of Caritas Center shelter and support services, the 128-unit Caritas Homes will be built in two phases as a mix of two-story street level townhomes and three stories of flats above a ground floor podium. The project’s massing steps down in transition to the St. Rose Historic District to the north, from which the project draws its contemporary Craftsman architectural vocabulary. Community amenities will be focused on a central pedestrian mews, envisioned as a spine connecting all the elements of Caritas Village, and aligning with an existing alleyway in the block to the north to restore the urban fabric.
This transit-oriented development is proximate to public transit, within walking distance of the Second Street Transit Mall, new SMART train station, and downtown amenities.
