The Courtyard Townhomes are located on a sloping site on a wooded edge of the Mills Campus. Following the pattern set by many of the early campus structures, the buildings are arranged around a landscaped central courtyard with building entries marked by large covered porches and built-in seating. To meet the fast track construction schedule, PYATOK designed the project based on repetitive modules composed of townhomes and flats organized around a central sky lit foyer. The sequence of shared courtyards, entry porches, and open foyers creates a graceful transition from campus to student residence and maximizes the opportunities for casual interaction among the residents. As one of the first projects in this area of campus, the Courtyard Townhomes establish a precedent for future buildings on this important public frontage.
